CPAP mask

A known and very effective remedy against sleep apnea for people with moderate to severe sleep apnea is sleeping with an overpressure mask or CPAP. Especially if you are heavily overweight, it is likely that you will have to opt for this treatment.

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. With this method, you wear a custom-made mask over the nose and sometimes also the mouth while sleeping. The mask is connected to a pump that blows air into the pharynx under pressure. The overpressure ensures that the airways can no longer block.

Although it takes some time getting used to sleeping with a CPAP, the results are very good. Patients feel more rested within a short period of time and their complaints as a result of sleep apnea diminish quickly. At the Ruysdael Clinics you will be guided by our pulmonologist for the measurement and adjustment of the CPAP mask.
